Have you found yourself googling ‘dog training close to me’ to find lessons? Scholars In Collars has helped Burlington-area owners and their dogs for more than 20 years. Our classes are positive, science-backed and built on one belief: a well-trained owner creates a well-trained dog. You’ll learn how to communicate with your best friend, not just how to cue a sit.
What Makes Our Dog Training Lessons Different
Plenty of schools offer classes. Few keep them this small or this personal. Here’s what you can expect:
- Maximum of 6 dogs per class, so every team gets real attention
- 2 to 3 qualified instructors in every session
- A behavioural expert leading every class as head instructor
- Positive reinforcement only, with no choke collars, prong collars, physical punishment, fear or intimidation
- Instant access to trainer support, videos and handouts the day you register
- Reader’s Choice #1 dog training for over 20 years in a row
Everything we teach is grounded in current behavioural science. That means fear-free methods that work, and a dog who enjoys learning.
What to Expect When You Register
Your training starts the day you sign up. Here’s how it works:
- Register and get instant access to your online course materials, videos and handouts
- Start learning at home before your first in-person class
- Attend semi-private classes with 2 to 3 trainers guiding you and your dog
- Reach out to your trainers between classes if you need clarification or support
- Order any equipment you need remotely and pick it up at our facility
Because you begin with the online material, you and your dog arrive at class prepared. Class time goes to practice, not catching up.
Our Dog Training Programs
Every dog and owner starts from a different place. These programs meet you where you are.
Level 1 Family Pet Program
Our flagship course is for dogs 9 weeks and older. Puppies go straight into Level 1 with no puppy pre-school required first, saving you time and money. Here’s what’s included:
- 8 in-depth lessons on behaviour, obedience and socialization
- 7 semi-private in-person classes with a maximum of 6 students and 3 trainers
- Full online course in written and video format
- 1 year of online access for preview and review
- Remote trainer support between classes
- In-depth behaviour training covering biting, jumping, housetraining, separation, barking, aggression prevention and more
Training shouldn’t be something you subject your dog to. It should be something you enjoy doing together.
Canine Behaviour: Parenting & Problem Solving
This class is for current and prospective dog owners, and you do not need a dog to attend this class. You’ll learn how dogs think, learn and communicate. You’ll also learn how to prevent common problems before they start. It’s a smart first step if a new dog or puppy is on the way.
Puppy Socialization: Confidence & Manners
Puppies aged 9 to 18 weeks can join our puppy play sessions when registered in Level 1. Groups are structured by size, age and play style, so your puppy is matched with the right playmates. Playdates are not a free-for-all, overwhelming experience. Owners also learn how to read social signals and when to step in.
Advanced Classes
Ready for the next step after Level 1? Our advanced and private programs build on your foundation and strengthen your relationship with your dog. Advanced programs run 4 to 6 weeks.
A Training Space Built for Learning
Our 3,000 sq ft training centre is climate-controlled, clean and well-lit. Non-slip flooring keeps you and your dog safe. We arrange the room to suit each dog’s learning needs, and we also have a second space for specialty programs plus a separate agility room. Sessions never feel crowded or rushed.
Meet the Experts Behind Your Dog Training Lessons
